CHRIS O’CONNOR | APRA Member since 2009
A drummer and percussionist able to coax music out of any imaginable object or surface, Chris O'Connor is everywhere. A superlatively creative musician and improviser, he is currently a permanent fixture in SJD and The Phoenix Foundation.
Chris combines studio work with constant live-playing in a kaleidoscope of different styles – he’s toured with Neil Finn and Don McGlashan, performed with the Vitamin S free improvisation community, and been the key consultant for Auckland Council’s public arts project ‘Pop Percussion’. From stage shows for Toa Fraser, music for Massive Theatre Company, ATC and the New Zealand Dance Company - to experimental live film/music performances based on Len Lye's kinetic sculptures and contemporary classical performances with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Chris is also a passionate educator who teaches at Unitec and the University of Auckland.
