Maisey started singing at a very young age, first at family gatherings and in choirs and then professionally when her arrestingly beautiful vocal style attracted the attention of her school principal.
Her first recording ‘E Hine’ - a collection of Māori traditional songs recorded with her school choir - went double platinum and won ‘Best Māori Language Album’ at the New Zealand Music Awards. By the age of 15, Maiseyhad been nominated for Best Female Vocalist and her honest, thought-provoking mediations on life and Māori culture have accumulated many more awards and honours since.
With two award winning solo albums to her name, Maisey has toured throughout New Zealand and internationally, performing alongside artists such as India Arie, Stan Walker, Dave Dobbyn, Anika Moa, multi-Grammy award winning artists, The Blind Boys of Alabama and also opening for John Legend. She won the Maioha Award in 2013 for her waiata, ‘Ruiamoko’.
