Samuel’s music – which contemplates how time and form is expressed in music – has has been performed by prominent artists and ensembles throughout Asia, Europe and North America including Klangforum Wien, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, NZTrio, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
He has recently undertaken a number of projects with the visual arts collective ‘et al.’, and their collaborative work Upright Piano is held in the Chartwell Collection at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Samuel’s many awards include First Prize in the 2007 Asian Composers’ League Young Composer Competition and an APRA Professional Development Award in 2009.
In 2013 he was the Mozart Fellow at Otago University. Currently lecturing in music at Unitec in Auckland, Samuel is also the artistic director of Auckland contemporary music ensemble, 175 East.
