We're excited to announce that applications are now open for Songhubs 2018.

The week long program will be held at Roundhead Studios in Auckland from April 16 to 21.

SongHubs Auckland is a collaborative song-writing retreat presented by APRA AMCOS with the generous support of NZ On Air, Auckland Council, Recorded Music New Zealand and the New Zealand Music Commission.

SongHubs Auckland brings internationally acclaimed songwriters to Auckland where they collaborate with New Zealand and Australian writers, artists and producers. The participants are selected by our independent curator Greg Haver.

This year there are sixteen places available - twelve for writers and four for producers.

You are eligible to apply for SongHubs Auckland 2018 if:

  • You are an elected Full Writer Member of APRA

  • You’re able to demonstrate either commercial success or a strong track record of audience and industry support within the past two years

  • You have a manager, record company, music publisher, or distributor supporting your career

  • You have a recording scheduled for release during the 12 months following SongHubs Auckland 2018

  • You have collaborated and/or worked on successful local or international releases

  • You are keen and willing to collaborate with other artists, songwriters and producers

  • You are willing to make yourself available for media relating to SongHubs Auckland 2018, and for your image and biography to be used in association with this and future SongHubs events. 

  • You are available for the duration of SongHubs Auckland 2018 – including the introductory drinks on Sunday 15th April and the Wrap / Listening Party on Saturday 21stApril.

The Special Guests:

We’re very pleased to announce the three international guests for this year’s Songhubs Auckland program are Kate York, Marc Beeson, and Heather Morgan.

Kate York:
Primetime Emmy award winning song-writer Kate York is a versatile artist-writer who’s penned music for a diverse range of artists from ‘Little Big Town’ to Fall Out Boy.

She’s also written songs for numerous hit TV shows and films including Grey’s Anatomy, The Fosters, New Year’s Day, One Tree Hill, Hart of Dixie, and countless songs for the show Nashville – one of which won her an Emmy for the song ‘Nothing In This World Will Ever Break My Heart Again’.

Marc Beeson:
This Illinois native and 25 year Nashville veteran has had over 100 cuts including songs recorded by Reba McEntire, Jason Aldean, Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Billy Currington, Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood and Chicago, among others. He's won 10 ASCAP awards including both Country and Pop Song of the Year for his #1, ‘When She Cries’.

As an artist, he's recorded for Warner Bros., BNA and Curb Records. He has served on the Board of NSAI; worked as a mentor in the MTSU music business program and is on the NARAS educational committee. He co-wrote Billy Currington's #1 single, ‘We Are Tonight’ and more recently, the title track of Ashley Monroe's Grammy nominated record, ‘The Blade’, Blake Shelton's ‘She's Got a Way With Words’ and Josh Turner’s #1, ‘Hometown Girl’.

Heather Morgan:
Heather Morgan grew up in Richardson, Texas before moving to Nashville, where she signed her first publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music. Her songs have been featured on the television show Nashville, recorded by Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Maren Morris, Cole Swindell, A Thousand Horses, Lindsay Ell, The Eli Young Band, Thomas Rhett, Dierks Bentley and Brett Eldredge among others.

A staff songwriter for Sony ATV Music Publishing, Heather celebrated her first #1 in 2014 with Brett Eldredge's song, ‘Beat Of The Music’ which also won her BMI's 2015 Country Song Of The Year. Her next #1 song soon followed with Brett Eldredge's lead single off his second album, ‘Lose My Mind’. She co-wrote five songs on Brett Eldredge’s self-titled record (released Aug. 2017) and is also enjoying the release of her own artist project in 2018.

Kate, Marc, and Heather will combine with different configurations of local songwriters and producers each day, to write a brand new song. The aim is come to the end of the week with many new songs written and recorded, and new friendships forged.

The Curator:

Greg Haver is an award winning Welsh producer, engineer and musician, now resident in New Zealand. His work includes recordings for such diverse artists as the Manic Street Preachers, Melanie C, INME, Catatonia, Super Furry Animals and Bullet For My Valentine. His productions in New Zealand include Opshop, the Feelers, Kimbra, Junica and Goodnight Nurse. He’s recently produced albums for Ciaran McMeeken and Jasper Hawkins and is currently producing The Chills and Ekko Park. Greg also founded the New Zealand Music Producer Series.

The Offer:

TWO (2) fully funded places for internationally based APRA AMCOS members:

  • Return flights to Auckland from anywhere in the world
  • Accommodation for seven (7) nights
  • Per diem of $60 NZD per day for six (6) days.

TWO (2) fully funded places for APRA AMCOS members who are resident in New Zealand:

  • Return flights to Auckland from anywhere in New Zealand
  • Accommodation for seven (7) nights
  • Per diem of $60 NZD per day for six (6) days.

TWELVE (12) non-funded places for APRA AMCOS members who are resident in New Zealand.


  • All submissions will be evaluated by SongHubs curators 
  • Successful applicants will be advised by 20 March 2018
