Carl Perkins of House of Shem and Herbs has passed away

We're very sad to hear of the passing of legendary Aotearoa reggae musician Carl Perkins. Perkins has passed away at age 59 after a battle with cancer, and will be greatly missed by many members of the New Zealand music community.

Perkins was a member of Herbs in the 1980's, and was inducted into the NZ Hall of Fame in 2012, along with the rest of the group. In the last decade he has been an inspiration to many as a member of House of Shem, which he formed with two of his five sons, Te Omeka and Isaiah. Perkins also had stints playing with Dread, Mana, and The Twelve Tribes band, and toured with The Wailers after Bob Marley died.

A central and much loved pillar of the reggae community, Perkins has been living and sharing a message of peace, love, and unity through music for more than 30 years.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
