Wānanga | Workshop Outline
The SOUNZ Kaitito Kaipuoro Wānanga | Composer Workshop is aimed at composers of all genres at all levels of compositional development.

The wānanga will include presentations and panel discussions and will offer the opportunity for composer collaborations. Māori and non-Māori composers are invited to participate and develop new connections, collaborations and ongoing relationships.

Following the presentations and panel discussions, composers will collaborate in pairs or small groups, so bring your instruments and any other equipment you need. This will be followed by a showing at 5pm.

I am very proud that SOUNZ is hosting this wānanga for our composers to invoke rich collaborative relationships cross-culturally and cross-genre. We are honoured with the calibre of presenters that have been so generous in supporting us with this kaupapa. Their wealth of knowledge is extensive, insightful and mana enhancing. All who attend will be inspired and enlightened by what is shared. I look forward to new partnerships developing, collaborative relationships continuing, increased knowledge in marketing and some stunning compositions by the end of the wānanga. The Kaitito Kaipuoro Wānanga is for composers interested in creating new work, understanding Māori concepts within composition, and continuing the evolution of the music of Aotearoa New Zealand. We will also have some space for participants and developing composers who wish to observe the presenters and composer collaboration on that day.

Nō reira, e ngā kaitito, kaipuoro, kaiwaiata katoa, nau mai, haere mai ki te wānanga me ōna tini kaupapa. E mihi kau ana ki Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, Te Puni Kōkiri me Toi Aotearoa mō te putea tautoko. Mauri ora ki a koutou katoa.
