BILL URALE aka. KING KAPISI | Silver Scroll Winner | APRA Member since 1994

King Kapisi was the first hip hop artist in New Zealand to receive a APRA Silver Scroll Award, which he won for his single ‘Reverse Resistance’ in 1999.
In 2000 he released his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Savage Thoughts’ to rave reviews and gold certification. He also achieved gold with his second album ‘2nd Round Testament’ and his single ‘U Can't Resist Us’ featuring New Zealand hip hop icon Che Fu in 2003.
King Kapisi writes extensively about his Pacific heritage and uses hip hop to promote the message of ‘keeping it real’ through culture, language and the power of knowing your roots.
A creative entrepreneur, in 2002 he started his own urban streetwear clothing label, Overstayer Clothing (a name that refers to the infamous Dawn Raid era in NZ, during the 1970s). King Kapisi won the Westfield Style Pasifika Designer Award in 2003 and 2004, and his designs have been showcased at Air New Zealand Fashion Week.
