TAMA WAIPARA | Ngāti Ruapani, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Porou | APRA Member since 2007

A talented multi-instrumentalist, Tama studied Clarinet at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York. Mid-way through his degree, however, a serious head-injury temporarily forced him to explore other musical avenues, inadvertently paving the way for his glorious singing voice to make itself heard. After recovering and then graduating with a Masters Degree, Tama was immediately signed by New York record label ObliqSound through which he released his debut album ‘Triumph of Time’.
Tama has since returned to New Zealand and released three award winning albums. He has collaborated and recorded alongside the likes of producer Aaron Nevezie (The Black Keys, Questlove), drummer Kim Thompson (Beyonce), Grammy-nominated American artist Emily King, Jon Toogood (Shihad) and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
