The APRA Music Grants programme helps to fund the 48 Hour Music Production Challenge run by Mangere Town Centre

The Māngere Love '48 Hour Music Production Challenge’ is loosely based as an audio equivalent of the 48 hour film festival, in which participants are given 48 hours to create a track as opposed to a short film from scratch.

The increased affordability and easier access to decent music recording equipment over recent years has meant that a large number of local artists these days are also engineering and self-producing their music at home or in mobile setups as opposed to the traditional, larger, established recording studios.

One key aim of this 48 Hour production challenge is to provide an exciting, inspiring and collaborative environment in which these artists/producers can have access to high end live session musicians and instrumentalists that they may not usually have the opportunity to work with.
